Bienvenido, Bienvenida a El Salvador - Welcome to El Salvador

Experiential Education:

Your time in El Salvador will be focused on meeting and making friends with Salvadorans. You will be introduced to political and social realities. You will learn about their culture, faith and history. By accompanying the Maryknoll lay missioners (MKLM) in their daily ministries, you will gain unique insights into the contemporary struggles and the solidarity of the people in El Salvador.

What Will You Do?

  1. Visit the tomb of Mons. Romero in the Cathedral; Divina Providencia Hospital, Mons. Romero's home; and the chapel where he was assassinated.
  2. Visit the UCA (Jesuit Central American University) and Romero Center.
  3. Onsite visits to MKLM's ministries enhancing the dignity of Salvadorans.
  4. Learn about the lives, culture and traditions of the indigenous Nahuat people.
  5. Sit down with common Salvadoran people to share about their lives, their faith, and their hopes and challenges and participate in their local liturgical celebrations.
  6. Visit with Fair Trade Coffee Cooperative workers.
  7. Participate in events where traditional food, music and dances will be presented.
  8. Experience the beauty of the beach at Costa del Sol.

Logistics and Costs

Prior to leaving, Center for Mission will provide an orientation which will include education about important cultural norms to follow during the trip. Our in-country guide will be Erica Olson, current Maryknoll Lay Missioner. There will another guide TBD that will also accompany the group.

The total ground cost is $850 + $100 non-refundable (unless program is cancelled) registration fee per person. Program fees cover all lodging and meals, all transportation within the country, English-Spanish speaking guides, cultural activities, and tourist fees. International airfare, taxes, and visa are not included.

Center for Mission will provide information on obtaining a visa and immunizations, and will help you make the international flight arrangements. Participants are required to arrive in El Salvador on Friday June 15 and leave on June 24, 2012.

Please request, fill out, and return your application form to Center for Mission with a copy of your passport and your $100 deposit. Please make sure your passport is valid through December 2012!
