Current Immersion Programs:
Our El Salvador Mission region has currently 3 immersion programs a year:
Center for Mission Immersion Education Program
This program is specially created for educators and parish leadership of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. It is offered through the collaborative efforts of Center for Mission and the Maryknoll Lay Missioners. A group of teachers and leaders of parishes of the Archdiocese will travel internationally to the country of El Salvador to partner with the Maryknoll Lay Missioners stationed in San Salvador.
In the country, the participants will grow in understanding of the Salvadoran people through encounters and conversations with a variety of people and visits to historical sites, including but not limited to: a) Maryknoll Lay Missioners who have lived and worked in El Salvador worked in EL Salvador for over 27 years; b) visits to MKLM projects working on economic and social development, with rural and indigenous communities as well as with Basic Christian Communities. c) the tomb of Archbishop Oscar Romero, who was assassinated saying Mass in 1980 and the site of his assassination; d) the site of the assassination of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and daughter in 1989; e) site of the murder of four U.S. churchwomen in 1980, which brought the attention of El Salvador to United States news outlets; f) and many other places of interest such as Fair Trade Coffee. Together with JustFaith Ministries, we invite graduates to experience a spiritual journey into compassion and an immersion into the lives, culture, faith and history of Salvadorans. This is an extraordinary invitation to you to witness mission experiences to respond to basic needs and help to create a more just and compassionate world.

Ohio Dominican University Service Learning Program
This program is offered through the collaborative efforts of Student Development, Alumni Office, Campus Ministry,the International Office, and the Maryknoll Lay Missioners. A group of students, alumni, and staff travel internationally to the country of El Salvador to partner with the Maryknoll Lay Missioners stationed in San Salvador. Working with the missioners there, the group travels to local communities to get to know the Salvadorian people and to help with a variety of projects to provide basic necessities like fresh food and clean water to the communities. This program is exclusively for students, staff and alumni of the Ohio Dominican University.
